Today, I want to share a thought-provoking quote with you that I recently found, which I feel has the potential to change the way we view our struggles and transform our lives:
"All suffering comes from our love for what misfortune takes from us. If the loss of external things causes me pain, then this is a clear sign that I love external things, and thus in truth, I love suffering and despair. Is it surprising, then, that I suffer? Since I love and seek to suffer and despair." – Meister Eckhart
Many of us find ourselves entangled in the pursuit of loving worldly things, leading to an endless cycle of struggle and suffering. Consider the following:
If you want to break free from this cycle, it's essential to shift your attention away from externals that are causing you constant struggles and focus on what you can control: how you perceive yourself, others, and what is possible. It does not matter what has happened in your past, you are not your past. Yes, you have an accumulation of thoughts, ideas and beliefs from previous experiences, but they do not define who you are today. The decisions you make right now, and every moment going forward, are what counts.
When faced with challenges or misfortunes, instead of viewing them as purely negative, consider them as opportunities that are happening for you, not to you. This is your choice to perceive things this way. Every misfortune we experience is meant to help us grow and become better and stronger men. Rather than wishing for these challenges to end, embrace them, learn from them, and see the beauty they bring into your life.
Instead of labeling everything as good or bad, what if we learned to genuinely appreciate and find the beauty in every situation we experience? It doesn't matter if it is good or bad. Imagine how much more pleasant and fulfilling life would be if we could see the positive in every situation.
As you go through your week, I encourage you to reflect on where you are placing your love, and consider these 3 questions:
What external things do you find yourself constantly chasing, and how does this pursuit affect your happiness and sense of fulfillment?
In what ways can you shift your focus from external validation to inner growth and self-acceptance? How might this change your perspective on the challenges you're facing?
Can you identify a recent misfortune or challenge in your life? How can you reframe this experience to see the advantages and growth opportunities it presents?
Shift your focus inward, embrace the power within you, and transform your suffering into strength. Remember, if you are not happy with your current situation, you are the only one who has the ability to change it, and it starts by changing your perception and, in turn, you change your life.
Stay strong and keep moving forward.
To your success,
Cory Skyy
